Model mortgage agreement – a step towards stabilizing contractual relations between consumers and banks
On July 24, 2025, the Financial Ombudsman’s Office hosted a presentation of the EKF Recommendation on the implementation of a model mortgage agreement, prepared by a team of experts led by Prof. Michał Romanowski.
The meeting was attended by representatives of consumers, banks, and key state authorities, including Dr. Michał Ziemiak, Financial Ombudsman; Prof. Leszek Pawłowicz, EKF Coordinator; Dr. Aneta Wiewiorowska, Minister of Justice Plenipotentiary for Consumer Rights Protection; Prof. Jacek Jastrzębski, Chairman of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, Maciej Szczesny, President of the Bank Guarantee Fund, Maciej Brzozowski, Financial Stability Department of the National Bank of Poland, Szymon Midera, President of PKO BP, and Wojciech Papierak, President of PKO Bank Hipoteczny.
During the meeting, there was a discussion on the need to use model agreements in relations with consumers, the value of standardizing the contracting process, and optimal methods of implementing agreements. A recording of the meeting is available here.
